Transportation

If you need transportation to Whitfield Hall, you
have some options.
If you are coming from
Norman Manley Airport in Kingston
, you can
take a Juta taxi or minibus to Papine (outside
Kingston) or Mavis Bank (in the Blue Mountains).
After that, one of our drivers can come pick you
up in a 4 wheel drive vehicle (a Land Rover).

If you prefer, you can also rent a car at the Norman
Manley Airport, and drive yourself to Mavis
Bank. You can leave the car there, while one of our
drivers picks you up and takes you the rest of the
way to Whitfield Hall.

We discourage you from driving to Whitfield Hall
unless you have a rugged, 4 wheel drive vehicle.
The roads are poor, and non-4 wheel drive cars
without proper clearance are often ruined on this
trip. The average rental car will not safely make the
trip from Mavis Bank to Whitfield Hall.

Please be sure to give us as much notice as
possible if you would like one of our drivers to
pick you up
. If you believe you will have
difficulty in getting to Papine or Mavis Bank from
the airport, please let us know in advance and we
will see if we can make alternate arrangements.

If you are coming from Ocho Rios or Montego
Bay
, you can either rent a car and drive to
Kingston, and then to Mavis Bank for a pick up; or
you can fly from Montego Bay to Kingston and
take a taxi or shuttle to Papine for a pick up. You
can also get a shuttle (Knutsford Express,
www.knutsfordexpress.com) from Montego Bay
to Kingston.

See Rates for pick ups on the Rates webpage.
Meals

You can either arrange for our housekeeper to cook
meals for you, or you may use our kitchen to do your
own cooking.
If you use our kitchen, crockery, pans, and
cutlery are provided. If you prefer for our housekeeper to
cook meals for you, you have 2 options:

You may pay for her to cook, but supply all ingredients
yourself (for a minimum charge of J$500 / US $7 which
covers cooking for 1 to 10 people, after which there is a
charge of J$50 per person), or

You can arrange for her both to cook and to provide all
ingredients.
See rates for this on the Rates page. Please be
sure to make arrangements before arriving at Whitfield Hall.
There are no markets or grocery stores nearby, and
provisions must be brought up from Kingston. One mile
from Whitfield there are a few very basic stores which offer
limited items. If you wish to cook yourself, arrange to stop
at the grocery store before your trip up.
"And so it
came about
that a week
afterwards I
found myself
seated in the
cozy little
shanty at
Whitfield Hall
with the
Guardsman
and the
Field-Marshall,
discussing a
good dinner
arranging our
programme.

Outside, the
moon was
shining in a
cloudless sky,
and shedding a
golden light on
the wilderness
of mountain
and valley..."
